A recent project in Wiltshire (UK) allowed us to support Cowco Southern in their efforts to improve livestock safety and welfare inside their facilities—an excellent example of how the right equipment, combined with a collaborative approach, can deliver meaningful improvements.
Understanding Cowco Southern’s Requirements
Cowco Southern approached us with a clear challenge: the concrete floors in their barns and livestock areas had become smooth over time, increasing the risk of animals slipping. This can impact not only safety but also animal comfort and day-to-day efficiency on the farm.
They needed a machine capable of creating accurate, linear grooves in concrete—cuts that enhance grip, reduce slipping hazards, and help maintain a safer environment for livestock.
By discussing the specifics of their setup and the demands of their operation, we were able to identify that a customised milling solution would deliver the most effective results.
Engineering the Right Technical Solution
To meet these needs, we supplied a Simex skid steer planer and coordinated with Simex to provide a custom-engineered concrete milling drum designed specifically for this type of agricultural flooring. This bespoke drum produces clean, uniform channels in concrete, ensuring the right level of traction without compromising surface integrity.
The results were immediate. Once in operation, the customised planer delivered exactly what Cowco Southern required: improved grip, reduced slipping risk and a more secure and comfortable environment for their animals.
